     3. Funding and Finances:

             TVK is a state-run television. Besides, most of the equipment for operating the station has been funded by Japanese Grand Aid (Grant Aid since in1998 for building the main Studio building with equipments facility). TVK also get the money for programming and the varieties of program productions from Government Budget by an annual Fiscal Year.

      TVK signal reaches throughout Cambodia and over-sea. TVK supervises on the   sub-regional 7 TVK-Stations were: TVK-Sihanouk , TVK-Koh Kong, TVK-Siem Reap, TVK-Battambang, TVK-Pursat, TVK-Mundol Kirri, and TVK-Ratanak Kirri. Moreover, by renting the satellite platform of THAICOM 5 from Thailand, TVK launched their programs to 126 countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, and also to the United States and Canada.

Most of the programs with Khmer Native language, but there are some of the programs by  French and English language.

 

       7.  Target Group:

            TVK is run to serve all Cambodian people living in the country and abroad. Another target group of the TVK is the embassies in the way to facilitate in getting the information from both sides.

8.  Themes and Focus:

            TVK Channel mainly focuses more on the news programs rather than entertainment. which can be sorted as news (45%), education (25%), and entertainment (20%), others 10%. Moreover, TVK prioritizes Political and Socials Information. The news is divided into Domestic News including Community-News, it is more popular for Cambodian people who are living abroad as they can see and understanding the current situation in their home towns which their relatives are living. Provincial News which is relates to all the events and social activities from the 24 Cities/provinces in Cambodia. For the International News Program TVK has cooperates with some of the International Broadcasters that can allow TVK can pick and rebroadcast in their Channel with free of charges by NHK (Japan), CCTV9 (China), CFI (TV5 France).              

 

9. Management /Staffs:

TVK is split into 5 departments including Local and International News Department, Program Production Department, Technical Division, Oversea Broadcasting Department, TVK- Regional Department and Administration Office with a total of 316 of staffs. Among those 275 members, 35% are qualified and 41 are workers but have many experiences that are working in TVK since it has started since 1983. TVK has given chances for those who want to be trainee in the electronic media.

 

10. History:

            TVK is the one of the oldest television station in Cambodia as it was founded in 1966 with 30 members of staffs. The name of this station was changing trough the STATE. Since 7 January, 1979 after the revival of the Cambodian people, TVK was re-established on the 3rd December 1983.  In the beginning it had few of the workers and lack of equipments. So far, TVK has been rename in many times until it was named as National Television of Cambodia (TVK) in 1993 and did from the black and white to full colors screen. With the funding from Japanese Government on development the STATE TV by given a new building and setting the new studio equipment since 1998, TVK has developed the broadcasting from 4 hours to 14 hours a day with 10kw NEC transmitter machine. For serving the viewers in abroad in 1999 TVK expended broadcasting to foreign countries through a Thaicom Satellite which can reach 126 countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, and the United States.

 

11. Outlook:

Within a five-year plan from 2006 to 2011, TVK is changing and developing to TVK The NATION – WIDE Project which all the broadcasting in provinces has to be broadcasted from the central station (TVK Phnom Penh Center) within the regional programs that produced by sub-regional station. TVK is looking for FUND to implement the PROJECT. In development strategy plan TVK will construct new sub-regional station in 6 provinces was: Siem Reap, Koh Kong, Odor Meanchey, Kratie, Svay Rieng and Kampong Thom and from 2015 TVK will start to transfers the broadcasting system from Analog to DIGITAL.

12. Special Remark:

            It is the first time for TVK under the management from the journalism career personality, who’s become the Director General of TVK in August, 2004. H.E. Mr. KEM GUNAWADH has been working as TV Journalist for over 26 years.
